Watch the development of Lookout Point - the Gem of Historic Downtown Pocatello!
During a ride on the Downtown Trolley in 2018 with Downtown visionaries and representatives from the City of Pocatello, the development of a town square in the heart of Downtown Pocatello began to take form. The first renderings for the project were done by Ben Ledford at Myers Anderson Architects.
During 2020, the Historic Downtown Pocatello staff and Board of Directors began putting the funding together for the first major project identified in the 20 year development plan, a town square, located between S. Arthur Ave. and S. Garfield. The area was mostly parking lot with Simplot Square on the East corner and the Historic Bangs Building on the North side.
On December 17, 2021 Lookout Credit Union was announced as the major donor for the project with just over $1.1 million allocated to the development of what was at that time called Pocatello Town Square.
On July 21, 2022, Lookout Credit Union, the City of Pocatello, Historic Downtown Pocatello and the Pocatello-Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce hosted the ground breaking, or actually asphalt breaking ceremony, announcing the construction of the town square, what would officially be named Lookout Point. Construction continued into the spring of 2023.
Lookout Point opened officially on June 2, 2023 with a spectacular ribbon cutting celebration followed by a summer and fall full of record breaking events!
What was a vision and a dream in 2018 become a beautiful amenity for our community in 2023!
The support and commitment to make Lookout Point the beautiful space that it is today would not have been possible without the Lookout Credit Union Board of Directors and their amazing leadership team, CEO Doug Chambers, BJ Fillingame, Blake Roemer, and their entire staff!
Thank you to Mayor Brian Blad and the City Council, Rick Cheatum, Linda Leeuwrik, Josh Mansfield, Brent Nichols, Corey Mangum, and Scott Marchand. We are grateful for their commitment to Downtown and the faith and assistance in helping us make Lookout Point a Downtown Gem!
